Description

This is the album that began the genre of "New Age" Music in 1975, along with Steven Halpern's "Spectrum Suite". This is a compilation of Iasos' earliest works, and provides an excellent variety of interesting music for focused listening. This CD includes the selections on the original LP, plus the bonus track "Angel Play".

This can be thought of as a sonic journey through a great many realms - from etheric-tropical to inter-planetary - great for "consciousness-traveling" via sound.

This album marks the very beginning of Iasos' recording career.   It is a cd version of the original record album, as well as the bonus track: "Angel Play".

Designed for focused listening - definitely not as "background music".

If you are listening with tiny computer speakers, you may wish to turn down the volume at the beginning, since the strong bass frequencies when it first starts might otherwise distort the sound.   Or try headphones!

Reviews and Quotes

New York Times
Hearing Iasos's 1975 debut album, "Inter-Dimensional Music," for the first time, "you're like 'Where have you been all my life?' " Mr. McGuire said.
(New York Times, Feb. 16, 2014 Sunday edition)
Also Audio interview in New York Times  (same New York Times, Feb. 16, 2014 issue)    Ben Ratiff interviews Mike Ruben (the writer of the above article):
Mike Ruben:
"Well he (Douglas McGowan) went so far as to say that "Inter-Dimensional Music" - Iasos' 1975 debut album - he thought that was one of the most important records of the 20th century, that that piece had a.you could listen to that a hundred times and you still wouldn't really be able to grasp how complex it was. And that there's stuff going on there - harmonically and that, that's so advanced."

A Guide to Experimental New Age (music)
"It's no accident, then, that two of the first explicitly New Age records were released in 1975 and recorded in the Bay Area: Steven Halpern's Spectrum Suite and Iasos' ( ya-sos ) Inter-Dimensional Music (a subtle attempt to name the genre on the artist's part). And while Halpern's record is no less important and amazing, I'd point to Iasos as the spiritual godfather of the movement, and Inter-Dimensional Music as the more diverse and interesting record. To me, it retains the best characteristics of psychedelic music (space, experimentation, and heady atmospherics) and combines them with the best of New Age's more explicit spiritual focus. And, Earbits has it! Listen here.
Iasos works mainly with acoustic instruments on this record, but in a way that evokes the sparse, warm analog synthesizers on Brian Eno's ambient records (no coincidence that Discreet Music, the first ambient record, was recorded the same year) and the lush colors of Vangelis' film music. The pieces are like short sound paintings or auditory poems rather than songs proper.  Their pace is gentle, and the tracks mostly swell and fade in and out of each other. Thick textures serve as a bed for bursts of heavily processed electric flute and piano, all of which wouldn't feel out of place as an interlude from a Miles Davis "electric" session.
(by Aaron Stein-Chester, June 30, 2016, Earbits Blog)

Red Bull Music Academy
"If you're entering the market for New Age music and need one album that pretty much sums up everything good about the genre - get this one. In fact, this album is credited as being one of the first "new-age" albums ever recorded (along with 'Spectrum Suite' by Steve Halpern)."
(From their on-line article "New Age - 20 Pivital Albums" written by James Pants, Nov. 8, 2011)

We Are the Mutants
Inter-Dimensional Music is otherworldly: a swirling and at times atonal confluence of flute, guitar, and keyboard, all heavily treated by electronics. Whether or not you believe in chakras or "a higher octave of emotions," the album is " a new and very profoundly beautiful world ," as Buckminster Fuller called it, and probably the first example of what is now called space music, a descendant of ambient.

Space music peaked in the mid-1980s thanks to syndicated radio shows like " Music from the Hearts of Space " and "Musical Starstreams," and artists like Steve Roach, Constance Demby, and Robert Rich have achieved cult followings (given the humble nature of the enterprise, that is all one can hope for). Inter-Dimensional Music was the template, and Iasos would refine and expand his sound over subsequent releases. From the chromatic trills and ethereal slide guitar of "Libra Sunrise" and "Lueena Coast" to the cosmic drones and synth washes of "Cloud Prayer" and "Angel Play," the album sounds remarkably contemporary, and the effects-driven flourishes can be heard not only in contemporary space ambient, but also in post-punk and post-rock: the Church, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Radiohead.

New Age has a somewhat deserved reputation as disingenuous fluff, and the market is cluttered with albums that claim to heal psychic and physical wounds with sonic vibrations. Watching and listening to Iasos , one gets the impression of a soul incapable of duplicity or vulgarity. His belief that higher-dimensional beings communicate to him and inform his music is as natural as my belief that higher-dimensional beings do not exist and would want nothing to do with our lot if they did. Maybe it's enough that people like him create music that sounds like an extraterrestrial paradise.
(written by K.E. Roberts, June 15, 2017)

New Age Journal
"Iasos is a 29 year old musical genius. While other musicians have taken cracks at creating what might be called celestial music, Iasos has perfected the art. 'Inter-Dimensional Music thru Iasos' does point to a previously unheard musical wavelength . . . an excellent vehicle for traveling toward higher planes of consciousness. In this newly developing form of Space Age/New Age music, 'Inter-Dimensional Music thru Iasos' has set the standard to which others must aspire or from which they may depart."
(Peter Simon, 1975)

New Age Retailer magazine:
"When I put on his Wave 1: Inter-Dimensional Music, I thought I'd heard nectar from heaven."
(Carol Wright, July 2001)

Aquarius Records (San Francisco):
"But c'mon, trust us, trust the folks at EM Records, and take our word that if you're only ever gonna buy one unabashed actual New Age album (and Andee hasn't already forced you to get some George Winston or Kitaro), then this should absolutely be the one."

Dr. Schluss' Garage of Psychedelic Obscurities
"Here's an album that I know almost nothing about, but have found myself listening to incessantly."

Dear Iasos,

Your music is inspirational.  I am a young musician from Pakistan. I play the tabla.. I am into ambient/new age music.. I have been listening to your album 'Inter-Dimensional Music' for some time now, and it is truly a masterpiece...  My favourite piece is "Rainbow Canyon'. I can listen to it a thousand times (which I already have! ).. It's beautiful...

To this day one of the profound listening moments for me was in the mid-80's when I bought a vinyl copy of Interdimensional music #1 on a whim not knowing anything about it other than it was in the  new age section and on listening to it I was convinced I had just bumped into the 20th century Debussy

P.E.

I think this is one of the most genius albums of the 20th century.

I found your Inter dimensional LP years ago in Seattle, and felt like I stumbled upon a goldmine. One of my top 5 favorite records throughout any genre.

I own interdimentional music on vinyl. I bought it at Amoeba Records here in Los Angeles after listening to it on iTunes for a couple of years. If I'm honest I think it's one of the best ambient records ever made. It is one of the only records that puts me to sleep at night. I usually drift off into a theta state usually around bubble massage.

Hello. I have recently purchased a copy of Inter Dimensional Music on CD. I bought this after purchasing the Celestial Soul Portrait compilation. Inter Dimensional Music is an absolute masterpiece. It stands in the great pantheon of electronic music pioneering albums. It is a wonderful album. If we look at it's contemporaries: Another Green World (Eno), Discreet Music (Eno), Rubycon (Tangerine DReam), Epsilon in Malaysian Pale (Froese) Timewind (Schulze) 7 Days of Creation (Jan Hammer) Heaven and Hell (Vangelis) we can see that it is more than equal to any of those.  However, as a fan of this type of music for over 20 years, I have only just come across it. My loss, but at least I get to hear some new historic music.

I really think with a proper remaster (but not one that takes aways its beautiful mid 70s warm halo) and proper repackage, being restored to its original LP tracks in order, this album will come to be recognised as one of the great albums of the period.

I am a huge fan of this album. I listen to Luuena Coast every day during prayers at church.  There is something holy going on in that album.
Thank you for creating such a wonderful album. I do hope you manage a proper reissue. The album deserves much wider attention.

C.O.

Hello, I've recently discovered your music, in particular the Inter-Dimensional Music LP, during a rather tense, emotional and dark period in my life. Listening to your record helped lift some of the weight off which made me feel worlds better. I just wanted to say thank you. Kind regards,

J.M.

I have an autistic daughter who keeps skipping through the other songs on the playlist to get to the song 'Rainbow Canyon'.

I cant tell you how often I listen to Elixir and Inter Dimensional music on tape, it balances out my mood and makes me feel safe to be honest.

"Inter-Dimensional Music" has spent several years in my top 10, and habit makes it hard to knock it out.  That said, I am loving some of these newer recordings and they've been taking the place of the horrible pop music filling the lobby of my English school when I get a few seconds at the computer.

Dear Iasos, I want to thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for giving so much of yourself- your time and your soul- with such love and generosity this past Saturday in Malibu. Your music has been a source of comfort, healing and inspiration for me to channel my own sacred music in a clearer, more precise way since I first heard "Inter Dimensional Music" a number of years ago, and it opened my heart wide open in ways I didn't know possible. In the course of my friendship with Carlos, he really introduced me to the depth and breadth of your work, and the nature of your wisdom and spirituality, your work with Vesta, (should be Vista) your understanding of the teachings of Bashar, etc .    Love!!

A.S.L.

Dear Iasos,
I recently was reminded of your first album and went to listen to it again. I had bought it when it was new after I had a diagnosis of cancer, for which I was given a very poor prognosis. Obviously, I'm still here, and I do attribute my healing to meditating to your music, among other things. Inter-Dimensional Music meant so much to me. Just wanted to say thank you.

L.M.

Nice to meet you Iasos,

... I've been listening your sounds for some years, which I discovered visiting some friends in the beloved Greece. I found your sound mysteriously catchy and therapeutic, quite difficult to describe it in words..

I played your “Winds of Olympus”, almost in a loop mode at the birth of my daughter a week ago, here in Moscow. I'm from Argentina but I travel frequently making videos for different types of events. Anyway, I wanted to ask you if there's a way to make you a donation as a way to express my deep gratitude for all your work and dedication to channeling your angelic sounds.

Hopefully I get the chance to meet you some day, meanwhile sending lots of hugs and love!

E.Y.
