Andrew Annenberg Visionary Art

Andrew Annenberg

Photo of Andrew Annenberg 8 images = long down-load but worth the wait!

Andrew lives on Maui where his zest for life and his love of the tropics imbues his images with an uncanny vibrancy. His art work has tremendous photo-realism with detail to the point of being almost microscopic!  Perhaps this is why Andrew's work has been referred to as "visionary realism".  In fact, the realism in his underwater imagery stems partially from the fact that Andrew loves to actually go skin-diving on Maui.   Much of his artistic inspiration comes from the Lemurian feeling of the Hawaiian islands, his enchantment with the tropical version of paradise, as well as his fascination with the primal, the archetypal, the mythological, and the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, and Atlantis.  His art work is distributed through his own company - Annenberg Masterworks - and he is one of the featured artists in Iasos' video program "Crystal Vista".

"Portal of Hunab Ku"
by Andrew Annenberg
oil on canvas 36" x 50"
From "The Lost World" Series
© Andrew Annenberg

Commentary by the artist:
"PORTAL of HUNAB KU also uncovers evidence of a highly sophisticated society, a civilization distant and unkown, where art and architectural remains speak of supernatural influence, of advanced tribes who mysteriously abandoned their unearthly creations. The Mayan mythology of creation speaks of Kuxan Suum, a pathway of cosmic resonance traveling through the sun, past our galaxy, to the center of our unvierse. Its destination is HUNAB KU, the source of all movement and measure, an all-pervading conscious energy that manifests the rhythm and form of our universe. Deep beneath the sea a light pulses and emanataes the life force of benefolent consciousness. Dolphins and a myriad of sea life swim about, basking in the creative energies streaming forth from Mayan ruins, rejoicing in their connection with this ancient intelligence."

"Dolphin Isle"
by Andrew Annenberg

Commentary by the artist:
"The second of the Paradise Suite, DOLPHIN ISLE is reminiscent of my trip to Palau, in Micronesia.   I wanted to harmonize elements that normally wouldn't be so well blended and to demonstrate close relationship with out friends, the Dolphins."

Commentary by the artist:
"Venus is triumphant at the judgment of Paris. Zeus golden apple in her hands, she in her temple represents the highest in art for that time. Civilizations in marble creations are threatened by nature s turbulent forces.   Inspired by a trip to Greece and Pompeii in Italy, this piece remains a major work of my repertoire."

"The Enchantment"
by Andrew Annenberg
© Andrew Annenberg

Commentary by the artist:
"This painting incorporates many elements of the Celtic culture and the magical Fairy realms. Tiny fairies make up the twirling colors of the rainbow. Part of this painting reveals Merlin's triumphant emergence from a crystal cave, where he was trapped by a magic spell. While he slept for a period of time, the world of Camelot struggled in darkness without his guidance and influence. Ultimately it was the power of love that brought him back. The rainbow colors below the cauldron form a stem, pouring forth the vibrational attributes that merge heavenly elements into the earth. A god dips the tiny men into the cauldron and they emerge as higher, more aware beings, who possess the powers of divine vision, becoming God-men. The village girl near the oak tree comes as a representation of Ipona, Goddess of the horses, bringing her cornucopia of abundant fruits to the land and the people. This latest painting speaks of the beauty and wonder of another era of times past, in my series of Lost Worlds."

"Guardians of the Grail"
by Andrew Annenberg
oil on canvas, 50 x 72"
From "The Lost World" Series
© Andrew Annenberg

Commentary by the artist:
"Amidst the very essence of Medieval art and Gothic architecture, the curiously ellusive Grail myth is represented.  According to tradition, Arthur was crowned King of Britain and soon after, founded the Circle of the Round Table, its shape reflecting eternal perfection because the table had no beginning and no end. Twelve guardian Dolphins symbolize the Knights - each so great in dignity and power that none could occupy a more escalataed seat than another. The Knights fall silent. Trembling just out of reach, the radiant chalice looms above the Knights. The Grail is the symbol of purity, faith, heroism and charity - that ultimate perfection which allures those who struggle, and rewards those who attain. The search is the Divine drama of the Soul, in which the Self as a hero goes through the experiences of the lower life, contending against ignorance and evil and releasing the higher qualities held captive by the lower. The Dolphins surround the sacred table, as 'Guardians of the Grail'."
This is also the image used for the cover of Iasos' ELIXIR album.

"Aqueous Atlantis"
by Andrew Annenberg
oil on canvas, 36" x 48"
From "The Lost World" Series
© Andrew Annenberg

Commentary by the artist:
"AQUEOUS ATLANTIS unravels the radiant depths of a lost continent, of the ancient civilization of Atlantis, whose ancestry can only be intuitively implied. The aqueous ruins are now a gathering place for the dolphins. They circle images of themselves portrayed lovingly by the Atlanteans in a mosaic floor and swim toward the light energy emitted from a gold-capped pyramid. As we look closer, drawn in toward the light, we are there aware of a powerful presence."
